Project: Garage & family room addition

Location: Corning, NY

Date:1997

Quality: High

Before: The small garage was very awkward to access and exit from. The windows seen above the garage door are to the kitchen.

This beautiful English Tudor style home was lacking a family room and access to and from the garage was very difficult.

It was decided to add a new two-car garage and place the family room above it - this also happened to locate it adjacent to the kitchen. Existing materials and details were matched throughout.

After: The addition already looks as if it were part of the original architecture. The cantilevered gable is part of the new family room an features a built-in seat below the window. The rooflines, brickwork and half-timbering are all carefully modeled on the existing.

Above: An early hand-drawn concept sketch helps illustrate the design intent.

Left: A computer model superimposed over a photograph shows the client how the finished addition will appear.
