At PSA CUSTOM HOMES we recognize that a stock home plan, even one that may be substantially modified, is not for every new homebuilder. Many people want a truly unique, one-of-a-kind home, custom designed to suit their families needs, their site and their budget. They want their new home designed by a truly talented residential architect.
Unfortunately, most architects simply do not participate in residential design. They put their talents to use designing commercial, industrial, institutional or government buildings and are just not set up to do, nor indeed are they knowledgeable in, residential work. Of the ones that do participate, the vast majority perform a full architectural service i.e. design, documentation and providing contract administration throughout the building's construction; indeed their insurance carriers insist that they perform the full service or they will withhold the architect's coverage. Consequently, because of the considerable amount of time that this takes, these architects have to charge the client between 10%-15% of the home's cost of construction. This could be $30,000-$45,000 for a $300,000 home.
PSA CUSTOM HOMES offers clients a middle approach through our on-line design service. We recognize that very few homeowners want, or can afford, to have the architect involved during construction. As architects continue to price themselves out of the market, increasingly the process defaults to builders and unlicensed "building designers" and although some may be very talented and good at what they do, unfortunately many are not. Even the best and most talented of them are NOT architects and should not be confused as such.

Licensing:
The specifics relating to architectural licensing vary from state to
state, consequently, in those states where Peter Steer AIA, CSI does
not already hold a valid architectural licence or where state law otherwise
prohibits the practice of residential design by unlicenced individuals
PSA Custom Homes will engage the services of a Professional Engineer
duly licenced in that state to certify that the project meets or exceeds
state requirements.
